Description

The Town of Lincoln is looking for a Museum Assistant to support the operations of the Lincoln Museum and Cultural Centre in various areas. This part-time position involves engaging with visitors both in person and electronically, as well as assisting with the digitization of object records in the museum’s collections. This includes scanning and saving all physical records for digital retention.

As a Museum Assistant, you will:

  • Serve as front-facing visitor service staff within the facility, providing detailed information and support to all visitors to ensure an exceptional experience.
  • Manage front desk bookings and handle visitor inquiries efficiently.
  • Assist with the museum’s digitization projects, working with various original record formats (e.g., photographic, textual, bound volumes, etc.).
  • Digitally image fragile historic materials using appropriate handling techniques.
  • Support statistics management related to visitor engagement and museum activities.
  • Help at events, programs, and public orientation to enhance visitor engagement.
  • Assist in the development and installation of exhibits to showcase the museum’s collections.
  • Generate engaging social media content to promote museum activities and events.
  • Perform general administrative tasks as needed and other duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will possess strong communication skills, a passion for history and culture, and a commitment to providing excellent visitor service.

Requirements

The successful candidate must possess the following:

  • Experience working in archives, museums, libraries, or heritage organizations.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Completion of grade 12
  • At least one year experience in a customer service field
  • Experience delivering a wide range of information and services to diverse customers
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • A strong commitment to provide excellent customer service
  • Adaptable to change, ability to grasp new concepts quickly, and excel in a team environment as well as independently
  • Experience handling payments and transactions using safe and secure practices
  • Excellent time management, and organizational skills
  • Thorough knowledge of various computer applications.

Compensation

This is a permanent part-time position. Typical hours are Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., and Saturday & Sunday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., with occasional additional hours during special events. Hours and shifts may vary, depending on operational needs. The hourly wage for this position is $20.45.
