Description

Working to promote Bethesda’s values, vision and mission statement, The Communicative Disorder Assistant (CDA) will implement speech and language treatment programs for children, youth and their families, under the guidance of the Speech-Language Pathologist.

 

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Partner with Speech-Language Pathologists (SLP) and Audiologists to implement therapy goals for people from all walks of life. Using specialized training, tools, and techniques, we help transform the lives of individuals and families through effective communication.
  • Follow and administer treatment plans with clients developed by the SLP.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of training and workshops to provide communication strategies to caregivers and other professionals within the community.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of group and individual treatment programs targeting speech, language, augmentative-alternative communication (AAC), fluency, and social communication goals.
  • Assist with preparation and development of treatment materials and completion of projects within the Speech & Language department.
  • Work collaboratively with Speech-Language Pathologist and other clinical team members to develop and deliver interdisciplinary treatment programs.
  • Maintain clinical records and treatment progress reports.
  • Comply with Bethesda policies and procedures relating to health and safety.
  • Responsible for reporting all health and safety concerns immediately following the Internal Responsibility System.
  • Perform administrative tasks as required including documentation and resource development.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Post- Knowledge of speech and language treatment theories, methods, and techniques.
  • Member in good standing with the Communicative Disorders Assistant Association of Canada (CDAAC).
  • Background in ASD, and developmental disabilities is an asset.
  • Experience working with children who experience a variety of special needs, including communication disorders.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in child development.
  • Ability to work creatively with clients both individually and in group settings, in the home and school settings.
  • graduate diploma or certificate from a recognized Communicative Disorders Assistant program.
  • Experience working within a multi disciplinary team.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • First Aid Training and CPR Certification.
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certified.
  • Professional Communication Skills: professionally represents the company through strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Teamwork: excels at working with others and communicating with a team to provide the most effective support to clients.
  • Problem-Solving: able to navigate challenges and barriers, always looks for potential pitfalls and risks to help mitigate problems ahead of time, and knows when to ask for help.
  • Proactive: anticipates and solves problems and issues before they are brought to your attention
  • Fluent in French is an asset.
