Description

Reporting to the Supervisor of Technical Services, the Engineering Technician is responsible for providing engineering and technical support with respect to the design, construction, operation, maintenance, and rehabilitation of various types of infrastructure under the Public Works Department. This includes but not limited to assets associated with storm water collection, storm water management, water distribution, wastewater collection, planning applications and minor variance applications. This position also provides engineering and technical support with respect to development applications, utility consent applications, etc.

Requirements

The successful candidate must possess the following:

  • Successful completion of a post-secondary diploma in Civil Engineering Technology.
  • Certified Technician Designation (C.Tech) is required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience
  • A solid understanding of municipal infrastructure and engineering practices are required.
  • Working knowledge of computer programs such as MS Office, AutoCAD Civil 3D, ESRI ArcGIS Software, Citywide asset management software, or similar software/programs. 
  • Knowledge of and the ability to follow corporate policies and procedures, Provincial standards, and regulations and legislation.
  • Ability to read and interpret legislation, technical journals, manuals, work orders, design drawings, bylaws, supplier information and reports.
  • Interpersonal and written communication skills;
  • Time management skills and the ability to pay exceptional attention to detail;
  • Dealing diplomatically with all levels of management, staff, elected officials and the public;
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a team;
  • Working well under pressure and meet set deadlines;
  • Knowledge of the components and review of subdivision plans;
  • Valid Ministry of Transportation Class “G” Driver’s license.

This is a C.U.P.E. position with an hourly wage of $34.14 based on a 40-hour work week. In addition to a dynamic and fast-paced hybrid team environment, we offer an excellent benefit package and pension plan.
