Description

To support growth in the community, the Town of Lincoln is looking to hire a Communications Specialist. The Town of Lincoln, located in the beautiful Niagara Region, offers a unique environment that encompasses Lake Ontario, the Bruce Trail and Niagara Escarpment and is situated between Hamilton and St. Catharines. Reporting to the Manager of Corporate Communications, the Communications Specialist is responsible for developing and supporting external and internal communications strategies, with the goals of providing clear and consistent communications, nurturing, and expanding relationships with the Town’s audiences, growing communications opportunities, and strengthening existing communications tools – both traditional and digital. In addition, the Communications Specialist will assist in managing the creation, production, and distribution of digital and print products. The Communications Specialist will contribute to the design and development of high-quality communications products, ensuring style and branding compliance. This role will help maintain the Town’s website and implement the corporate social media program.

Requirements

The Successful Candidate will have the following qualifications and skills:

  • Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in communications, marketing, business, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years experience as a Communications Assistant, Communication Specialist, or similar role 
  • Membership or volunteer experience in the Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) would be considered an asset.
  • Experience with website content management and HTML would be considered an asset.
  • Understanding of media relations and proficiency using digital media strategies including various social media platforms and experience with website editing (using Content Management Systems)
  • Strong editing and researching skills.
  • Strong writing and presentation skills.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills, including the ability to juggle multiple tasks and respond rapidly to new events and competing priorities.
  • High level of attention to detail especially when reviewing documents
  • Strong digital skills including knowledge of social media platforms and the social media landscape.
  • Ability to multitask, learn quickly, and easily adapt to a changing environment.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate them when appropriate.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.

Compensation

This is a contract position until December 31st, 2023 with the possibility of an extension. The hourly rate is $30.73 – $35.95 based on a 35-hour work week.
