POSITION OBJECTIVE

Working to promote Bethesda’s mission, vision and values and quality services, the Chaplain Spiritual Care Practitioner will provide spiritual counselling, education and care primarily to individuals in service, at times caregivers may be included in these services.  These services span across all three Departments at Bethesda:  Children & Youth Services; Adult Services and Adult Clinical Services.

 

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Using a Trauma informed approach, considers cognitive, emotional, spiritual, behavioural and developmental needs across the life span when providing services
  • Identifies how clients’ spiritual, religious, philosophical and cultural beliefs and values may inform treatment choices
  • Refers to additional professional or community-based services when appropriate, including the inter-professional care team, elders and religious leaders
  • Seeks to improve the quality of life by engaging individuals supported by Bethesda in various exercises and faith activities; examples may be engaging the individuals in discussions based on the faith of individuals; focusing on bible study, prayer, encouragement and personal growth.
  • Providing Trauma, Grief and Bereavement:  prepare & provide bereavement supports to people supported by Bethesda programs which may also involve providing trainings & workshops
  • Spiritual Formation & Life Coaching by preparing and providing opportunities to connect with people supported about their spiritual life including: lead special Corporate chapel services at Christmas, Easter & Thanksgiving; prepare and lead mid-week Chapel services, as well as weekly bible studies/devotionals at various locations within and external to Bethesda, leading individuals in person and/or corporate worship sessions
  • Providing Critical Incident supports, with a faith based lens,  to equip individuals to effectively manage and respond to high-stress, traumatic events focusing on crisis intervention, stress management and debriefing techniques
  • Leading funeral services, as well as provide bereavement support to individuals.  Also provide bereavement support as a Community Services program.  Trauma and crisis interventions/supports for individuals who have experienced trauma.
  • Increasing community involvement, inclusion & diversity  by increasing connections for people in their faith communities
  • Play a lead role in the development and fostering of relationships and partnerships with various religious denominations to assist in supporting the faith of all individuals.
  • Delivers compassionate care to individuals and families honouring their diverse backgrounds and perspectives with sensitivity to Religious diversity
  • All other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Current Certification as Certified Spiritual Care Practitioner with the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (CASC), or in the process of completing certification or willingness to complete
  • Registration with a College of Registered Psychotherapist of Ontario or Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Services Worker or equivalent or working towards.
  • Master’s required for Chaplain 3, Chaplain 2-BA, Chaplain- Diploma
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Pastoral Care and Developmental Services preferred
  • Musical background is an asset
  • Leadership skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • First Aid Training and CPR Certification
  • Safety Care certified
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Fluent in French is an asset.
