PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

 

The Cashier must enjoy working with the public, has a friendly, outgoing personality, and have strong relational qualities. The Cashier must display a positive attitude when interacting with customers and maintain a clean appearance.  They must understand the needs and wants of a thrift store customer and be able to deliver exceptional customer service.  The Cashier must understand inventory control, pricing and can be flexible with work hours.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary Activities:

  • Communicate clearly and effectively with volunteers and staff
  • Ensure that cash area is clean, clear and meets safety standards
  • Resolve any customers issues or concerns that may arise while ensuring customer satisfaction
  • Perform basic math functions to collect payments and make change
  • Understands Canadian currency
  • Operate registers, scanners, and credit card/debit card terminals
  • Memorize product locations throughout the store and be able to direct customers or make suggestions
  • Collect payments and bag purchases for customers
  • Maintain accurate cash drawer
  • Count funds in the cash register when required during a shift

 

 

Secondary Activities:

  • Standing and walking for most of the day in a constrained sorting and retail space
  • Frequent reaching, bending, and stretching
  • Lifting and carrying goods
  • Other duties as assigned by Management
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule that includes occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays

 

Knowledge

The Cashier must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:

  • Knowledge of office policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of non-profits/volunteer organizations
  • Experience with retail sales, working with volunteers is preferred
